In my view modern environmentalism has lost its way. It's less about nature or habitat preservation and more about distilling fear and anxiety. Today environmentalism is described as: "a broad philosophy, ideology, and social movement about supporting life, habitats, and surroundings" (wikipedia)

Along with other social movements such as #BLM and #MeToo, environmentalism has become a career for many and a tool for driving the behaviors of consumers. Those who are in a position to secure control over government subsidies, campaign funds and leverage cancel culture's divestment movements have become everything they hated in the first place.

As the dust settles we see nothing more than an attempt to overturn another hierarchy.

Some of the more spectacular examples might be:

I would forgive anyone for becoming jaded after so many a breeches of trust.

Rather than choosing to vilify people on social media or prevent commuters from driving to work my wife and I chose to live closer to nature and plant some trees. Retreat somewhat. ...and certainly this would make us elite members of the 'property owner class'.
